When left unchecked, our inner critic can become the only voice we hear. It’s the mind’s instinct to protect us from potential risk, failure, and pain. All of us can relate to the experience of “putting ourselves out there” only to be rejected, dismissed, or deemed a failure. And right on cue, our inner critic tries to convince us we should stop trying.
It undermines our self-confidence by pointing out all the ways in which we are incapable, or broken, or inferior. Know that you are far wiser than your inner critic. By thought alone, you can silence your inner critic by acknowledging its intent to protect you. Asking the right questions can shift your focus from pain to possibilities.
